2022: A Look Back

One year and seven new product designs in to my work at Black Kettle Brewing. Still getting used to the wild nature of the craft beer market but really excited to officially be back in the game!

In case you missed them as they came out you can read more about each beer and how we developed them.

Peach Rattler – Mezcal Spiked Session Ale

Super Soft – Hazy IPA

Mango Tango – Mango Passionfruit Sour

Cold English – ESB

Back In Blackberry – Blackberry Blood Orange Sour

Living Creature – Black IPA

Lights Out – Stout

So good to see some of these coming back this year plus there are lots of new labels in the works for 2023 so stay tuned!

Consider Your Winter Warmed!?!

For those that remember I have had a thing for black beers! I developed a very tasty black Cream Ale back in the day as well as a kick you in the ass Schwarzbock that is still on shelves today. So I guess it was time to revisit the dark side!

Come on baby light my fire!

As the name implies, this Black Kettle Brewing oatmeal stout is Lights Out! With a jet black body and hints of light smoke with dark coffee it is the perfect winter combo.

Don’t be scared, the body is smooth with flavours of light chocolate, caffe machiato and vanilla.

5.1 alc./vol. and 22 IBU

For the IPA lover we did not forget you! A beautiful Black IPA is a rare brew indeed. With it’s bold black colour and upfront hoppy flavour every sip is toasty and malty with a satisfying caramel finish.

Pick your poison indeed!

With the help of my usual design support from Kreviii Design we are onto our second batch of this bad boy. Once it wraps its flavour around you you are in trouble!

6.5% alc./vol. and 45 IBU

JHFTB x Black Kettle Collab

I love it when clients come together! Especially when it is for a good cause, a damn good beer!

Back In Blackberry Sour

It has been a few years since I did a project with Joe Leary and the gang at Just Here For The Beer radio. Joe and I got together with the Black Kettle Brewing team and decided to join the sour craze. After some flavor trials with Sarah Polkinghorne, Head Brewer at BK, we settled in on a blackberry and blood orange concoction. Then it was off to my go to designer Kreviii to work his label magic!

This is the 12th anniversary for Just Here For The Beer but the first time they have done a sour brew for the collab. Just the right time I say and just the right beer! The guys were nice enough to have me as a guest on the anniversary show, have a listen!

Feeling Bull’dog’ish!?!

For the second beer in a row, the beer has sold out before I can get a post up! Loving the bulldog graphic from Kreviii Design.

We had a bunch of different names on the table from the Black Kettle team and lounge customers…

Big Pete, one of BK’s finest lads

In the end we paid tribute to a classic malt brew, Olde English, and chose a traditional icon, the good ole’ British Bulldog for the label mascot.

Extra Special Bitter is a traditional English ale, which is served with a lower carbonation than most North American styles. Aromas of banana and caramel sweetness are the first to hit your nose, as biscuit and toffee notes roll down your tongue and the special bitter finishes with a hint of grass and a thirst for another!

Have you ever danced with the Devil?

What started as “Passionfruit Mango Sour” on a beer board was transformed by the Mulgrew team into something only the Mulgrew team could dream up… Mango Tango! Big shout out to my dad, Ian, for coining what hopefully will become a perennial seasonal from Black Kettle Brewing.

Inspired by amazing brand champion Sailor Jerry and their ultra-cool labels and maybe a little Tahiti Treat influence, Kreviii Design put a million dollar effort into a small batch one off that looks fantastic on shelves.

Mango Tango Sour is available at:

Black Kettle will also be pouring Mango Tango at VCBW and in the tasting lounge while it lasts!

Black Kettle Super Soft Hazy IPA

Big shout out to the whole team down at Black Kettle Brewing for letting Kreviii Design and I get down on another beer label, but especially the ladies!

This Super Soft project started with an all female brew on International Women’s Day. The result is sweet and grassy with a stone fruit nose, a crushable Hazy that may be a first of its kind. Not as heavy as other Hazy IPAs Super Soft has hints of bubblegum, tastes of melon and citrus with a subtle pine finish.

Super Soft was brewed with the 5th Annual Pink Boots Hops selection from Yakima Chief Hops and is available now!

Black Kettle Brewing Peach Rattler

Very excited to announce I am back in the beer game! I have just started working on creative projects for Black Kettle Brewing. My first project with them is a Peach Session Ale spiked with Mezcal! The first shipments of tall boys left the brewery this week so look for them in select stores!

Peach Rattler 4 Packs

There is approximately one bottle of quality Mezcal in every 50L keg! The best way to serve is ice cold with a Tajin & Margarita salted rim. Like so…

Serve With A Smile! Thanks Brooklynn!

Look our for more Black Kettle projects from Kreviii and myself just in time for beer season!

Christmas “SOAK”ing Stuffers!?!

What would a marketing guy be if he didn’t start promoting Christmas swag in November? You can get the full SOAK enamel pin collection that I collaborated on for only $50 (*Update: SOLD OUT). Not only will you have four super dope stocking stuffers but we are also including three custom SOAK Christmas cards!

Framed SOAK Enamel Pin Set

I have been studying Calligraphy at Pandemic University for the last few months so this was a great chance to put my skills to the test!

The biggest breakthrough I had was using a small brush to load the ink on the nib of the pen as well as ensuring I had a good base grid.

With every successful project comes the cutting room floor. Here are some of the sayings that didn’t make the cut! Merry Christmas all you Bahumbuggers!!!

Mulgrew Nude!?!

Relax, it’s just a color.

Ok, so I guess I have officially caught the fashion bug! Introducing Capsule Collection numero dos!

These pieces are turned out great and have a great classic feel.

PearWear Nude Boho
PearWear Nude Crop
PearWear Nude Satin Dress

Like a true fashion addict I am already working on next years collections and some high fashion couture collaborations so stay tuned!

Mulgrew Fashion Week!?!

Everybody Just Take A Chill Pill

I have never really told anyone why or how I started designing clothes. Truth is, I woke up in the middle of the night when I was in high school with a vision for a collection. I have not quite got the confidence to share or create that vision but I am getting close!

Here is a mock up for my new collection for PearWear, a Mint Capsule Collection.

PearWear Mint Capsule Collection

What starts as some sketches becomes…

No matter how many different pieces I create and watch come to life it is always magic to see the end result!
